Information

The ASB, with College Sport, will again promote the ASB College Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year Dinner, which will be held on Thursday 11 November at Eden Park

The original purpose of this function as initiated in 1991 was to reward and recognise students who have performed with distinction in the regular senior secondary school sports competition organised through College Sport. Students should be competing in senior or open secondary school competition and preferably be senior school students.

College Sport recognises that secondary school students participate in sports not on the College Sport calendar, but are not in a position to recognise them at our awards. Over the last few years’ recognised sports have grown to 33 out of our 40 sports, but College Sport's sanctioning process encompasses factors beyond the sport arena, including coordination with the educational calendar, administrative strength and adherence to the principles of secondary school sport. We regret that we are unable to recognise some student’s achievements at our awards.

It is possible that a school may nominate more than one student in a sport, if there are a number of students attending that school who have reached a high standard of achievement. In other words, you should not attempt to anticipate the winner and thereby fail to nominate a student from your school who could well become a finalist.

AWARDS

(a) Sport Categories - from nominations received, up to three finalists per sport per gender are invited. One winner per sport per gender announced on the night.

(b) All Rounders - from nominations received, all that meet the criteria will be awarded on the night.

(c) Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year - chosen by the Awards Committee from all finalists attending the awards ceremony.

(d) Service to Secondary School Sport - nomination forms will be sent to the Principal.

(e) National Team Champions Roll of Honour - from nominations received, all teams which have won a Senior New Zealand Secondary School Championship, will be recognised in a roll of honour read out at the dinner (ie no presentation will be made).

NOMINATIONS

Nominations are to be submitted directly on the Enter Now

website by Friday 10th September 2010, 5pm.

Instructions, along with criteria & eligibility details, and the Principal’s Endorsement Form will be available online on our website. A reminder notice will be sent to you in July.

SELECTING FINALISTS

The process after receipt of nominations is that we send all nominations to a ranking official, considered an expert in their field. Their rankings come back to the office where a committee comprising College Sport staff, Directors of Sport from schools, and 2 Principals from the ASSHA Board then ratifies them.

(a) Nominations received.

(b) All nominations sent to ranking official (usually National or Regional Sport Organisation).

(c) Ranking officials rank Top 5 in order.

(d) Meeting convened of sport committee comprising College Sport staff, ASSHA Board and selected school Sport Directors.

(e) Meeting clarifies and ratifies rankings and winners.

NB The judging committee will make every effort to ensure that there are no more than 3 finalists in each sports category.

 Date: Thursday 11 November, 2010

Time: 6.15pm

Venue: Eden Park

Student finalists are invited directly by post. Sport Co-ordinators are sent an invitation and a Confirmation of Attendance Form. Finalists have a tear off slip from their invitation that they will give to the Sport Co-ordinator by Friday 29 October. The Sport Co-ordinator is then responsible to co-ordinate rsvp’s and payment for all staff, students and family for their school by Friday 29th October using the Confirmation of Attendance Form.

Ticket Allocation

(a) All tickets to be paid for via school (i.e. Family must pay school).

(b) Tickets will be posted to schools upon receipt of payment (All ticket sales are pre-pay only) between 5-9 November.

(c) If, after all allocations are filled, and there is space available, additional requests will be considered and allocations will be made at the discretion of the College Sport Office.
